Conditions We Help Manage at Our Richmond Chiropractic Clinic

Our Richmond chiropractors use the Gonstead technique to assess a wide range of musculoskeletal and nervous system conditions. Here’s a look at what we commonly see and manage in the clinic.

Lower Back Pain & Sciatica

Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons people walk through our door — often after months of trying to manage it on their own. When sciatic nerve pain is involved, that sharp, shooting discomfort down the leg can make daily life genuinely difficult.

The Gonstead assessment pinpoints the specific lumbar spinal levels contributing to your pain. Getting that right matters. Generic care aimed at the general area often misses the mark entirely.

Neck Pain & Headaches

If your headaches seem to start at the base of your skull and creep forward, your cervical spine may be involved. Cervicogenic headaches — caused by joint and nerve irritation in the neck are often misidentified and poorly managed.

Targeted Gonstead adjustments to the cervical spine can help address the underlying source of neck tension and referred head pain, rather than simply managing symptoms.

Pregnancy & Paediatric Chiropractic Care

Your spine goes through a lot during pregnancy. As your centre of gravity shifts and your ligaments loosen, spinal discomfort is common and often dismissed as just part of the process. Chiropractic care during pregnancy uses gentle, modified techniques suited to each stage, focused on supporting spinal comfort and pelvic alignment.

For children, conditions like torticollis — where the neck muscles cause the head to tilt or rotate — respond well to early, careful chiropractic assessment. All paediatric care at My Chiropractic Place uses age-appropriate, gentle techniques.

Whiplash & Scoliosis

Whiplash from a car accident can leave lasting spinal and soft tissue damage that isn’t always visible on standard imaging. Early, specific chiropractic assessment can be an important part of recovery — helping restore joint mobility and reduce referred pain patterns before they become chronic.

Scoliosis management depends heavily on the individual — the degree of curvature, age, and symptoms all shape the approach. Our Richmond chiropractors assess each case carefully and discuss realistic expectations with you from the start.

Extremity Joints & Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Chiropractic care isn’t limited to the spine. Shoulder impingement, knee pain, ankle instability, and wrist issues — including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome — can all involve joint and nerve dysfunction that responds to careful chiropractic assessment and care.

What Melbourne Patients Say

What to Expect at Your First Visit

First appointments can feel a little uncertain, especially if you’ve never seen a chiropractor before. Here’s exactly what happens.

Step 1 — Your Health History & Gonstead Spinal Assessment

Your first visit starts with a thorough health history. We want to understand your problem properly — when it started, what makes it worse, and what you’ve already tried. From there, your chiropractor performs a full Gonstead spinal analysis: postural assessment, spinal palpation, and nervoscope instrumentation. If X-rays are clinically indicated, we’ll explain why and what we’re looking for.

No rushing. No assumptions. Every patient is assessed as an individual.

After your assessment, your chiropractor explains their findings clearly. You’ll understand what’s going on and why.

Some patients want relief from their immediate symptoms and nothing more. Others want to work toward fuller recovery. Some choose to continue with periodic maintenance care. There are no pre-paid treatment plans at My Chiropractic Place, and no pressure to commit to a programme you’re not sure about. Your care is always your decision.

Where clinically appropriate, your first Gonstead adjustment may take place on the same visit. It’s specific, precise, and directed at the exact spinal level identified in your assessment — not a general adjustment to the area that’s sore. Most patients are surprised by how targeted it is.

Frequently Asked Questions

A chiropractor assesses and helps manage conditions related to the spine, joints, and nervous system. At My Chiropractic Place Richmond, Dr Nam Nguyen and Dr David Addie use the Gonstead technique — a thorough, hands-on method of spinal analysis — to identify the underlying cause of pain and discomfort rather than managing symptoms alone.
No referral is needed. You can book directly online or call the Richmond clinic on 03 9428 1836. If you'd like to have a brief conversation before booking, the practitioners are accessible — just call during clinic hours.
That depends on your specific condition, how long you've had it, and what you're hoping to achieve. After your initial Gonstead assessment, your chiropractor will outline a realistic recommendation — and you decide how you'd like to proceed. There are no lock-in plans or prepaid packages.
Yes. Both Dr Nam and Dr David have extensive experience providing gentle, modified chiropractic care for children and pregnant patients. All techniques are adapted to the individual, taking into account age, stage of pregnancy, and clinical presentation.
Yes — Gonstead chiropractic is the clinic's primary method. It involves a five-part spinal analysis before any adjustment is made: postural assessment, spinal palpation, nervoscope instrumentation, X-ray analysis, where indicated, and static and motion palpation. It is one of the most thorough and specific approaches in chiropractic practice.
Absolutely. We support collaborative, team-based care and are glad to communicate with your child's existing healthcare providers where appropriate. Your child's health team should work together — and we mean that.
