Chiropractors in Melbourne Who Get to the Root Cause

If your back pain, neck pain, or headaches keep coming back, you’re not imagining it. Something is still being missed.

At My Chiropractic Place, Dr Nam Nguyen and Dr David Addie bring 49 years of combined chiropractic experience to every assessment. Using the Gonstead system, one of the most specific and thorough chiropractic methods available, they look for the underlying cause of your discomfort, not just the symptom that’s bothering you today.

How Gonstead differs:

We Are Dedicated Gonstead Chiropractors in Melbourne

Most chiropractic adjustments target the area that hurts. The Gonstead system goes further.

Developed by Dr Clarence Gonstead, it’s a highly specific method of spinal analysis. Before any adjustment is made, our chiropractors conduct a detailed assessment, looking at your posture, using precise instrumentation, assessing the feel and the movement of your vertebrae, and examining your x-rays. Only then is the decision to adjust made, and only where it’s actually needed.

Dr Nam and Dr David have both been members of the Australian Gonstead Chiropractic Society for over 20 years.

Why Choose My Chiropractic Place

Personalised, honest chiropractic care with direct access to experienced practitioners — no referrals, no long waits, and no one-size-fits-all treatment.

No two spines are the same. Dr Nam and Dr David assess each patient from scratch, your history, your lifestyle, and your specific presentation, before forming any view on what care might look like.

You can book directly — no GP referral required. The clinic deliberately limits its appointment load, so you’re seen promptly and not rushed when you get there.

Dr Nam and Dr David refer out when it’s the right call. If your situation is better suited to a GP, specialist, or another practitioner, you’ll hear that honestly.

There’s no call centre or admin chain between you and your chiropractor. If you have a question between visits, you contact them — not a receptionist who passes a message.

Your Care, Your Choice

Some Melbourne clinics ask you to commit to a course of chiropractic care before you’ve even had your first adjustment. My Chiropractic Place doesn’t work that way.

You decide what kind of care you want. Some patients come in for short-term relief and stop when they feel better. Others choose to continue with recovery-focused care. Some return periodically for maintenance.

Whether you’re looking for relief, recovery, or long-term spinal maintenance, the pace and direction of your care is always yours to set.

About My Chiropractic Place

My Chiropractic Place was founded with one straightforward aim: to offer Melbourne patients a chiropractic clinic that actually listens, takes the time to assess each patient, and explains what’s going on.

Dr Nam Nguyen

Dr Nam has been practising for over 25 years. His approach: take the time to understand your history, your lifestyle, and what you’re hoping to achieve — then work out a plan that fits.

Dr David Addie

Dr David brings 24 years of clinical experience to his practice. Patients describe him as thorough, calm, and good at explaining things in a way that makes sense.

FAQS

Yes — though all registered chiropractors complete the same foundational training, the Gonstead system involves a more detailed and systematic analysis before any adjustment is made. Using postural observation, motion palpation, and spinal X-rays where needed, a Gonstead chiropractor identifies the specific spinal segment that needs to be addressed. The adjustment is then made precisely at that location — not as a general "loosen everything up" approach. If you've had chiropractic before and felt like it didn't quite target the right spot, a Gonstead assessment often provides a clearer picture of what's happening.

There's no honest one-size-fits-all answer to this, and any chiropractor who gives you a definitive number before assessing you is guessing. After your first visit, Dr Nam or Dr David will give you a clear picture of what they've found and what a reasonable course of care might look like. Many patients notice some change within the first few visits. How quickly things shift depends on how long the problem has been there, your overall health, and how your body responds. You'll always know where things stand.

Yes, we do accept Medicare Care Plans for chiropractic care from your GP. For first-time patients with a Care Plan, there is a $50 gap payable upon the initial consultation, and a $20 gap payable on subsequent Care Plan consultations.

Your first appointment is mostly about understanding your situation. You'll fill in a short health history form, and then Dr Nam or Dr David will walk you through a case history — asking about your symptoms, how long you've had them, what makes them better or worse, and what you're hoping to achieve. From there, they'll conduct a physical assessment: postural analysis, range-of-motion testing, and spinal palpation. If X-rays are clinically indicated, they can be taken in-house at the Richmond clinic, or patients will be referred to a local radiology centre (in Caroline Springs). You'll never be adjusted without understanding what's happening and why.

Chiropractic care is often associated with back pain, but many patients first come to us because of headaches. A significant proportion of recurring headaches — particularly those that start at the base of the skull or radiate from the neck — are linked to tension and restricted movement in the upper cervical spine. This is sometimes called a cervicogenic headache. Through Gonstead spinal assessment, it's often possible to identify whether a spinal component is contributing to your headaches. Chiropractic may not be the right fit for every headache type — and if there's any clinical reason to refer you elsewhere, we'll tell you.
